Can I represent myself?

You have the right to represent yourself in a civil case but you should do so only if you completely understand the legal issues and the procedures involved. For example, in a real estate transaction you need someone who does the due diligence, who helps you in the reservation offer, who draws up the preliminary contract, who advises you on tax profile and who checks the Land Registry to determine whether your apartment is registered/sold to anyone else. You should also understand that you may be at a disadvantage if you get too emotionally caught up in the case. You should represent yourself only if you are willing to accept this risk and others.

Why do I need a Lawyer?

Generally in good times as well as bad, individuals and businesses rely on their lawyer’s advice to understand and secure legal rights and financial interests. Lawyers help clients with estate planning and business negotiations, as well as with strategies and transactions. With good legal advice, clients are better prepared to comply with and navigate through the complex maze of governmental rules and regulations. You cannot by yourself efficiently protect and defend your investment and your interests as your ZGML lawyer would. For example because Italian real estate is an expertise of ours, you can be sure we will be able to argue and obtain better outcomes in your interest. Moreover your English speaking “Zagamilaw” attorney can sign the deed of sale on your behalf and so in this case you will not need a translator. You will be able to rest easy after consulting with an experienced “Zagamilaw” lawyer for important undertakings such as tax and estate planning, drafting wills and trusts, negotiating business deals and even pursuing personal family matters such as adopting children.

Why choose ZGML?

Our team never considers one case more important than another. When we are dealing with a client’s case, that case and that client are the biggest and most important thing in the world to us. Therefore, “Zagamilaw” will pay full attention to your case every step of the way, while giving you the utmost importance. When they practice law, they use the knowledge and skill they have received from their legal education and experience, and relate the law to specific facts. Their activities are many and varied, but include giving advice about what action to take, representing clients in lawsuits or other hearings, preparing legal papers, and lobbying. What will happen if the lawyer and I disagree?

Find out if the lawyer will agree to binding arbitration if a serious dispute arises between the two of you. Most state bar associations have arbitration committees that, for a fee, will settle disputes that you and your lawyer may have, say over expenses. By agreeing to binding arbitration, both you and the lawyer of “Zagamilaw” consent to present your cases to an outside panel and abide by its decision.

How much money will be required to handle my legal case?

“Zagamilaw” is perfectly aware of the importance of cost control and for this reason our clients will always be informed of the exact costs related to their legal case. We specifically discuss with you and make fully clear the fees and costs you will be charged and you will get your fee agreement in writing with our letter of engagement. Our fees are regulated accordingly to the Italian decree n. 127/2004, and the total legal fees VAT at the rate of 20% shall apply to EU individuals and to non-EU companies and individuals.

How are fees charged?

Under the Italian National Tariff Table approved by the Minister of Justice tariffs are itemised in detail and depend on the activity performed and the claim or transaction value. It usually gives a minimum and maximum fee range within which lawyers can charge. At our first meeting, a “Zagamilaw” lawyer will estimate how much the total case will cost and inform you of the method we will use to charge for the work. Please note that an initial consultation to discuss the facts of a potential case is free.

What types of fee agreements do you use?

Various types are allowed provided that they do not result in a final fee that is outside the minimum and maximum in the Italian National Tariff Table. We use an hourly fee, fixed fee or contingency fee depending on the case. Our method used to charge fees and expenses will be explained clearly to you by your “Zagamilaw” attorney at the beginning of the relationship with our law firm.
